Artist Statement

Phoebe Palin is a British artist with a creative and dedicated mindset. Her practice explores endangered wildlife, taking inspiration from the natural world while drawing attention to environmental issues due to climate crisis and the sewage and agricultural waste that threaten native species.

Palin collages textiles and paper materials, such as British Vogue magazines, acrylic paint and other miscellaneous pieces of fabric alongside other mediums. Her work also explores her profound connection to the local areas around her in Kent and questions the traditional superstitions humans have used to make sense of their environment. A common motif in Palin’s work is the circle, which symbolises connections to and within nature. Another medium Palin uses is wool that represents the boundaries between the human and natural world and the ripples of humanities effects on nature.

Palin’s conceptual thinking gives nature a platform and encourages the audience to engage with her work where the natural world exists unharmed - in a space free of pollution. Her work seeks to foster connections between the audience and the concept of responsible environmental stewardship.
